Calcite Bowl 5/8/1987
Calcite Jungle 07/14/1973 Originally the name of an area below Boxwork Chimney, this name is now loosely applied to all lower level passages. The name refers to the thick calcite coatings common to the lower level of Wind Cave. Surveyed by Don Coons and Andy Flurkey
Calcite Lake 06/1964 This lake, discovered by Herb Conn and Dave Schnute, is known for an abundance of calcite rafts ("calcite ice") which precipitate on its surface. This was the first large lake discovered in the cave. Herb Conn and Dave Schnute
Camel 08/25/1979 A rock in the floor of this passage has the appearance of the head of a camel.John Scheltens and Mike Wiles
Campaign Trail 11/11/2000 After surveying into a nearby virgin walking passage, they named several new areas, including the Campaign Trail, Battle of the Bulge, and Split Vote. They also named a 20 x 40-foot room the Ballot Box and a large balcony, the Gore Hole. All the names were in reference to the on-going Florida presidential election contest. Candlelight Tour 07/23/1891 Also known as the Pearly Gates Route. Large white popcorn crystals in this area resemble pearls and are located on either side of the entry passage into this room. Cathedral 07/04/1891 This large passage with abundant boxwork has been said to look like a "cathedral" or a "church". Alvin McDonald, M.E. and Willie Crookam and George Lee.
Cathedral Dome 1901 A dome on the Garden of Eden Tour.
Caught Crotch Climb 11/20/1987 On trying to climb down this pit Karen Rosga got her coveralls caught on a small protuberance. When she tried to turn around she discovered that she could go neither up nor down. Everyone on the trip (save Karen) had decided to call the pit Caught Crotch Climb. Cave City 04/22/1986 Following a series of tight, sharp crawls, Jim Pisarowicz popped into this large upper level room with many leads going all over the place. Greg and Jim Nepstad and Jim Pisarowicz.

Cheeri's Pit 04/4/1994 A 20-foot pit named after Cheeri. Jim Wilson, Tim Moreland, Chalres Shepard, & Cheeri Chapman
Cherry Pit Row 05/29/2000 An upper level passage that has four 15-20-foot deep pits in a row that connect to the south end of the Multipurpose Room. The survey had the sweet (virgin cave) and the pits, thus the name. Rod Horrocks, Steve and Sammi Langendorf
Cheese Factory 03/28/1981 This room has a light gray colored mud floor which has the consistency of cottage cheese. Ken Allgier, John Scheltens, Dave Springhetti and Mike Wiles.

Chinese Mushroom
A projection hanging from the ceiling in this area resembles a large, upside down mushroom. Also known as the Doughnut Room. Herb and Jan Conn and Dave Schnute.
Chinese Noodles 7/28/1989 Probably a burrow or root zone in Gollum's Den.
Chocolate Dikes Passage 08/10/1995 Named for milk chocolate colored mud dikes in the wall rock.Louise Hose, Aaron Bire, & Dave Lester
Choir Loft 01/20/1991 Numerous stalactites and 30" long soda straws. John Scheltons, Marc Lampheres, Lon Sharp, & Ben Sharp
Choke Room 03/1/1983 This spot in the cave is between the Yellow Brick Road and Expectation Trail and was found while the explorers were trying to connect to the Blowhole. This is a location where the explorers almost "choked" because the passages were getting very tight. Scott Buck, Marie Buzcard, Shawn O'Day and Heather Pullen.
Chompies' Shop 11/18/1987 Everyone on the exploration trip ate lunch made on bagels from Chompies Bakery in Phoenix, AZ in this room. Jim Pisarowicz, Jim Nepstad, Darren Ressler and Bob Kobza.
Chopins Nocturne 1898 A small alcove in the west wall of the Opera House that was named by a famous violinist, Edouard Remenji.
Chris' Chisel Crack 08/01/1970 A very tight crack that Chris Hill had to chisel some of the rock off the wall in order to get through. Chris Hill
Christmas Tree Park 08/18/1971 Named for its abundance of aragonite frostwork which resembles "Christmas trees". Nelson Kuniansky, Steve Nordstrom and John Scharres.
Church, The

Chute 05/10/1979 A smooth floored crawlway which is steep enough to slide down. John Scheltens and Dave Springhetti.
Cindy's Cell 04/28/1988 A small room past a 8" high squeeze the Cindy was apprehensive of squeezing through. She commented that she felt like she was trapped in a jail cell after going through the squeeze. Jim Pisarowicz, Shaun Larson, Erik Major, & Cindy Sperling
Citadel, The 08/31/1969 A large fissure passage. Also known as Mammoth Canyon. Ken Carpenter and Richard Knox.
City Hall 07/1/1964 A very large passage that was first discovered by crawling through a tight crawl and eventually leads to Calcite Lake. Herb Conn and Dave Schnute
City of Lights 07/11/1992 A beautiful frostwork area that extends from wall to wall. Jim & Jamie Myers, Brian Raven, & Pat Smith
City Sewer 07/20/1977 The crawlways in this area are smooth and round, resembling sewer tubes. Pete Kettleson, Jerri Kizer, ? O'Sullivan and Jim Palmer.

Clavicle Room 11/11/2000 Jim returned to his lead off the Elbow Room in the Historic Section, which he had found on 6/10/00. They surveyed 646 feet of virgin cave, following a windy passage across one of the biggest holes in the Wind Cave survey. They named two wide spots, the Pelvis and Clavicle Rooms. Club Room 1963 This room is named for its shape which resembles a club. The room is considered by many to be the largest room in Wind Cave because Half-Mile Hall is more a large passage than a room.Herb and Jan Conn and Dave Schnute
Club Room Loop 08/04/1990 The flagged caving loop that goes through Silent Lake, Buffalo Gap, Boxwork Chimney, Base Camp I, Winding Stair, Club Room, Chinese Mushroom, Hobson's Choice and back to Silent Lake.
Club Room North 1984 Large room north of the Club Room that is considered to be the continuation of the Club Room beyond a breakdown choke.

Coke Room 04/11/1981 Named after John Scheltens' habit of carrying cans of Coke with him into the cave. John Scheltens and Pete Shifflet.

Coliseum 06/12/1891 The Coliseum route was discovered by climbing up in the first part of the Sceneries of Wicklow (now known as the Temple). The Coliseum has also been referred to as Seal Rock Room because one of the rocks in this room looks like a seal. Albert Henault and Alvin McDonald.
Colon
"On entering the hall, the wreck of the Spanish warship Colon attracts attention. This specimen of Wind Cave novelty was named by Dr. Lentz of Brookings, S.D. This wreck is 350 feet below the entrance, nearly two miles from the starting point and in the sixth tier of chambers."
Colonade Room 12/9/2000 At the end of a crawl, the cavers surveyed up into an upper middle-level room that was 30-feet in diameter. They named it the Colonade Room, since it had four pillars around its outer walls. Rod Horrocks & Chris Ingrebretsen
Columbian Hall 05/05/1893 This room was named after the 1893 Colombian Exposition in Chicago. "Colombian Hall" was found smoked on the ceiling when it was rediscovered in the early 1970's by Wind Cave seasonal rangers. Alvin McDonald and John Stabler

Crown Jewels 12/29/1979 The huge quartz geode found in this room has finger-like projections with manganese interiors. The beautiful crystals resemble jewels. Also known as the Ice Storm. John Scheltens and Dave Springhetti.
Crumble Up, Crumble Down 11/18/1987 An up-climb with very crumbly rock. As one climbs up, the rock comes crumbling down. Leads into the Figure 8 Room. Jim Pisarowicz, Jim Nepstad, Darren Ressler, and Bob Kobza.
Crumbling Bridge Hall 03/04/2000 Discovered by the survey party on 03/04/2000. A chert-ceilinged passage that has a breakdown bridge crossing a pit. The area is fairly crumbly. Rod Horrocks, Joe Oliphant, John Citta, & Marc Pedersen
