Mamie's Pool 09/29/1893 Named after Mayme Sprague, one of the first people to have entered Wind Cave. Alvin McDonald and John Stabler.
Mammoth Canyon 08/31/1969 A high fissure passage. Also known as the Citadel. Ken Carpenter and Richard Knox.
Mammoth Dome 07/29/1891 A.C. McBride and Alvin McDonald
Mammoth Falls 07/23/1891 Charles Holmes, C.F. McBride, and Alvin McDonald.
Mammoth Galleries 07/09/1891 An area of wide, high fissure passages. Alvin McDonald
Mammoth's Backbone 10/22/1986 This large trunk passage has a ridge of smooth redissolved breakdown down its center somewhat like a backbone. Bob Kobza and Jim Pisarowicz
Manhole 07/12/1977 This pit is the main route down to City Sewer, hence the name. ? Galligar, ? O'Sullivan, Jeri Kizer, Jim Palmer, & P. Kittleson ?
Map Room 05/29/2001 This room has a flat, chert ceiling with manganese dendrites that resemble a line plot map of Wind Cave. Rod Horrocks, Dave, Ryan & Jordan Shurtz
Marble Palace 06/22/1891 A large room with lots of rocks and dust that is also known as the Bachelor's Quarters or A.O.U.W. Hall (Association of United Workingmen. M.E. Crookam and Alvin McDonald
Marble Quarry 1898 A large room with lots of rocks and dust that is also known as the Bachelor's Quarters or A.O.U.W. Hall (Association of United Workingmen).
Martel's Madhouse 02/02/1980 Named after Windy City Grotto caver Ron Martel. He was the first to enter the area, which is a confusing maze of interconnecting passages that end in a large room. John Scheltens and Dave Springhetti
Masonic Temple 11/26/1890 The original name of this room was Sceneries of Wicklow and later the Temple. R.B. Moss and Alvin McDonald
Master Budda 05/13/2000 A large sediment cone "buddha" located below a dome.

Max Headroom 04/21/1987 A really tight lead, so tight you cannot get your head through. Jim Nepstad, Jim Pisarowicz and Darren Ressler

McBride's Tumble 07/17/1891 Named after C.F. McBride who took a fall at this location. Charles Holmes, C.F. McBride and Alvin McDonald
McKinley Memorial Hall 1901 A high fissure passage lined with boxwork. Earlier named Kimball's Music Hall. Could be what is now called Browns Canyon.
McRoom 03/07/1988 A 30-foot wide by 5-foot high room originally discovered by Alvin and Elmer McDonald and C.F. McBride on July 10, 1891. There names were found in the corrosion residue in the ceiling. Surveyed by Jim Nepstad, Darren Ressler, & Erik Major
Meat Grinder Crawlway 08/01/1970 John Scheltens & ?
M.E. CHURCH 1901 A room that Rev. Hancher from the Black Hills Methodist College held a song and prayer service in. A rock on the left resembles a pulpit.
Mercedes Pit 08/03/1999 A 22-foot deep domepit in the Roman Catacombs area with passages going off at the top, middle, and bottom of the pit. The cross section of the pit resembles the Mercedes emblem. Surveyed by Rod Horrocks, Graham Hogg, John-Paul Sicotte, & Rainer Engler
Mermaid's Resort 1901 Right after the Standing Rock Chamber on the Candlelight Tour.
Merry-go-Round 07/03/1891 This fissure passage was discovered on July 3, 1891 by M.E. Crookam, Willie Crookam, George Lee, and Alvin McDonald. This route was used to climb to the Fairgrounds before the Marble Quarry route was developed. Also known as the Alpine Way or the Crevice. M.E. Crookam, Willie Crookam, George Lee, and Alvin McDonald

Mesopotamia 04/19/1987 An area where there is lots of evidence of flooding. Named because it is the "flood plains of the birth of new cave". Chris Gerow & Pete Smerud
Methodist Church
Named for some of the boxwork in this room that is in the shape of a cross. Named in 1934 by members of the CCC. See M.E. Church.

Also called Snow Ball Hall because of the abundance of cave popcorn in this passage.

Mind Boggler 11/27/1999 A 200-foot long walking passage partially floored with calcified mud cracks. Named after Rod Horrocks kept saying, "This is Mind Boggling!" Half of the passage had been scooped by a single person, probably Herb or Jan Conn in the 1960's and the other half was virgin. Rod Horrocks, Marc Ohms and Brad Oen.
Ming's Merciless Crawl 11/27/1982 A very tight crawlway pushed by Ken Allgier to a dead-end. Named after the villain in the Flash Gordon comic strip. Ken Allgier, Dave Springhetti and John Scheltens.
Minihaha Falls
A seasonally, wet, drippy area with some flowstone near the Mules Ears. There is an upper and lower component.

Misleading Chamber 06/12/1985 A lead going off a previously known area that was so badly depicted on maps that when the survey party started into the passage they did not know which passage they were in. Larry Johnson, Jim Nepstad, Jim Pisarowicz and Darren Ressler.
Misplaced Pit 04/20/1981 A 20-foot pit that the explorers seemed to have "misplaced" while mapping in this area. Liz Chapman, Cory Crawford, Steve Matson and Kathy Raymond
Model Room 07/03/1891 A model of this room was once displayed in the visitors center. This room is also known a Odd Fellows Hall because of the three solution pockets in the ceiling that look like the interlocking rings of the Odd Fellows. Willie and M.E. Crookam, George Lee and Alvin McDonald

Monument Hall 06/05/1884 A large fissure passage that is located under, and runs parallel to the passage leading to the Devil's Lookout. This was the furthest extent of exploration in Wind Cave until the arrival of the McDonald family. L.C. Faris, Frank Halden and Charlie Roe
Moon River Falls 03/20/1976 An area with a nice display of flowstone, stalactites and stalagmites. Surveyed by Bruce Zerr and team.

Motel 6

Mother Pucker 10/12/1991 This dome opens upward and ended after a crazy 140-foot climb by Stan where he nearly killed himself when he used a loop of webbing to swing onto a ledge above a 100-foot pit. Stan Allison, Paul Burger, Bob Kobza, & Jim Nepstad

Music Appreciation Area
When tapped, boxwork fins in this area emit musical tones*.Art Cook, Bob and Linda Cowin and Nelson Kuniansky.*Such behavior should not be done in caves as speleothems, such as boxwork, are very fragile and may be damaged by tapping them.
