Ragtime Crawl 10/10/1992 Crawl named after Randy's nickname, "Rags". Dave & Steve Lester, Randy Brown, Kirk Haley, Melissa Lester
Randys Doghouse 03/13/1993 James Wilson, Kevin Reynolds, Randy Brown, & Eric Dutton
Raped Ape 03/21/1987 A 50-foot high fissure passage named in honor of Greg. Led to the Cakewalk discovery. Jim and Greg Nepstad, Darren Ressler
Railroad Junction
Named for the many promising looking leads leading from this room. Unfortunately all the leads apparently soon end. John Scheltens & ?
Rainbow Beehive 02/17/1989 An amazing section of wall where dogtooth impressions give the area a beehive or honeycomb appearance. The individual facets reflected the colors of the rainbow from their lights. Jim Nepstad, Darren Ressler, Bob Kobza, & Marc Lamphere
Rainbow Falls
An area with much multi-colored flowstone. Mapped in 1979 by instructors from NOLS
Rainbow Rooms 12/11/1993 Two large rooms with brightly colored, banded sediment. Discovered by the survey crew after doing a five-minute dig to brush some rocks to the side of a belly crawl. Rod Horrocks, Clair Call, Kevin Pippen, Joel Despain and Doug Kent.
Rat Scat Room 08/30/1987 Steve Matson, R. J. Johnson, & Juan Laden, & Alan O'Brian
Raymer Room 03/06/1905 Named after Mr. Raymer, an 81-year old visitor. John Stabler and Mr. Raymer
Rebel River 08/01/1970 A three-inch wide, one-inch deep stream named after its discoverer, Nelson "Rebel" Kuniansky. Nelson Kuniansky and Chris Hill.
Reception Room 07/29/1891 A.C. McBride and Alvin McDonald.
Recovery Room 09/11/1993 A small 5-foot high room at the end of a long bellycrawl. Dave Lester, Rich Wolfert, & Kirk Haley
Red Chert Room

Red Clay Room
There is a large area of paleokarst in this room. Most paleokarst in Wind Cave consist of a breccia with broken limestone and chert in a red clay matrix. Alan Howard

Red Hall 06/05/1884 A room that has a red, sandy, micaceous clay bank associated with paleofill. Also known as the Beauty Parlor. L.C. Faris, Frank Halden and Charlie Roe
Red Mylar Survey Market 03/14/1992 Max Mazur, David Coles, Randy Macan, & Chris Collins
Rescue Pits #1 & #2 12/29/1971 Pits which bypass the Boxwork Chimney down to the Calcite Jungle. They would be used in the event of a cave rescue. Mike Francik, Carole Loskot and Mark Stock
Rescue Route 11/23/1991 The route that Bob and Stan found a few hours after Paul had jumped down the "Unclimable Pit" into Blind Faith. Stan Allison, Paul Burger, Bob Kobza, & Jim Erickson
Rescue Stairs
The steep stairs that led from the Assembly Room up to the Garden of Eden Route. This stairs are used when the Elevator is not working. Originally known as "Cliff-Climbers Delight".
Resister, The 12/5/1998 Very tight restriction that led to Pizza Hut. It was named after the largest person to fit through the squeeze, Marc Ohms. "Ohms" means resistance in electronics. Marc Ohms, Myk Coughlin, Rene Rogers, and Mike Wiles
Resonance Fissure 6/13/1992 A high and narrow fissure that voices resonated in. Steve Smith, Kevin Smith, & Becky Ward
Resonator, The 1974
Rest Stop 12/08/1980 This area gets its name from the fact that it is located right off the Silent Expressway. Tom Miller, John Scheltens, Pete Shiflett and Mike Wiles

Rhinoceros Jaws

Ribbon Room 11/09/1996 Evan Anderson & Skip Withrow
Right-On Room 12/09/1987 This 60-foot diameter room was first entered by Bob Kobza. Before he got into the room he and Shaun Larson were both checking separate leads both of which went. Shaun wanted the survey to go his way but Bob prevailed by saying that his way led to a really big room. When Shaun entered the room he said, "Right on, Bob!", and that became the name of the room. Road Block
A large piece of breakdown blocks this hands and knees crawl and forces one to crawl on ones stomach. Area first traversed by the Conns & Schnute but probably named by the Windy City Grotto. Herb and Jan Conn and Dave Schnute
Road D, Lower 12/15/1984 This fissure passage has both an upper and lower component. The passage is named after Assistant Chief Naturalist (and Cave Specialist) Kay Rohde (pronounced Upper "Row-D"). Warren Netherton and Jim Pisarowicz

Roe's Misery 1894 A narrow bellycrawl where an early guide named Roe got stuck and had to be pulled out by ropes. The McDonalds spent a great deal of time enlarging this area.

Roman Candle Room 09/09/1999 Moderate sized room just off of Rome where the surveyors found a candle, candle wax drippings, and lots of string left behind by early explorers. Surveyed by Rod Horrocks, Matt Tucker and Zach Guido
Rome 07/04/1891 This large room, although first discovered in 1891, was eventually to be the key to getting into the vast western parts of Wind Cave. It was from this area that Herb and Jan Conn and Dave Schnute eventually found the Spillway which blew open Wind Cave. Alvin McDonald M.E. and Willie Crookam and G.W. Lee
Roman Catacombs 08/03/1999 An extensive breakdown/boneyard maze below Rome. Extends westward to fill in the area between the Muddle Room and Upper Rome. Survyed by Rod Horrocks, Graham Hogg, John-Paul Sicotte, & Rainer Engler
Romance Chamber 4/21/1988 A room next to the 1897 Room.
Rookery 06/05/1884 Also called the Animal Cracker Room. L.C. Faris, Frank Halden and Charlie Roe
Rookies Room 09/16/1991 A room that was named because two of the surveyors were new to their positions and the other two were new to caving. Bill Hawn, Murray Vogel, Steve Huck, & Bob Phillips
Room Draculum 02/19/1891 This room is also called the Wind River Circle. Surveyed on 04/28/1980 by a NOLS survey crew (Jim Lesh, Jenny Lee, Eric Hegastead, Steve Lonis, Kathy Bogan). J.M. Moore and Alvin McDonald
